Life continues.. to continue. hmm. I guess that makes sense, in a redundant, biblical sort of way. :p
I should really read that one of these days, I got half of it around here somewhere. Not that I'm an especially religious person or anything (only time I've been in a church was for other people's weddings or when we used to have Beaver meetings there :P) just I like to gather as much knowledge as I can, and if I ever have to shoot down some religeous nut (as they often have to be shot down) it'd be nice to know what I'm talking about.
Anyways. My life. The last couple days have been alright. I pretty much got last week off, worked Last saturday night shift, then worked yesterday dayshift. so 1/2 a day short of a full week off. And it looks like I'll probably have the same thing this week. See, there's a senority list for the students. At the start of the year it was sorted alphabetically. Which meant I was in the middle. So I'd know a couple of my shifts at the start of the week, and they'd call me and fill the schedule in usually by Tuesday or Wednesday. But, as we were informed at the start of the year, their intentions this time around is to try and make sure everyone makes about the same amount of money. To that end every week they have been reorganizing the schedule based on earnings. The people who've made the least go at teh top of the list, and the people who made the most go to the bottom. Being my second year at the mill, and needing less training, I started earlier adn made more money right off. so I've been stuck at the bottom of the list for the past 3 or 4 weeks.
This is good in that I get fewer shifts, and it's bad in that I get fewer shifts. Good for me cause, really, who wants to work? :p
Bad for me because I make less money, and end up stuck at home all week. I can't go anywhere cause if I'm out of touch and they call me I get a shitstorm dropped on my head. (Closest I came was when they called while I was in the bathroom & I called back right away :P) And this would not be some slap on the wrist shitstorm. I hava a good record so I'd probably merit a warnng or two, but one guy, oddly enough named Guy, descided that he was going to a golf tournament last weekend, so he wasn't home when they called him into work. As a result, Monday morning they called him into the mill, and terminated him. (fired terminated, not like, rusty machette terminated, much to the dissapointment of most of the people who know him)
Other than that, I've been "on call" here at home too for the past 3 or 4 days. My Mom yelled to me when it started to ask why her computer was off. I didn't know. Then she called me to come into the computer room, cause her computer was off and wouldn't turn on.
Ok
So, I have a look, first thought is that it's overheated in this weather, especially when I opened it up and saw they had no case fan, so I sic a little fan on it for awhile and then try it, nothing. THen I check to see if the power button's broken, no, it seems to work fine, but when I turn the power supply back on, everything comes on and just sits there doing nothing, doesn't even make it as far as teh BIOS. So I work at it in little bits over a couple of days. Finally, I descide I'm just gonna try pulling the processor and putting it back in, see if that has any effect. So I pull the Processor fan off, and a circular brick of dust falls out of it, and I pull the heat sink off and there's nothing but dust between the blades, then I look at the processor, and the silver heat gel stuff you use when you install the processor is kinda brown, full of bubbles, and running right off the side of the chip. But, I pull it ad put it back in anyways, nothing.
No question, the processor is fried. I go online and look to see if there's a new processor. But my dad's motherboard's so old no one makes proccessors for socket 370 MoBos anymore. And it's probably good, who knows how much damage the thing did to the motherboard when it went.
So my dad comes snooping into my room, and starts asking about my old box. I say that yes, It should still work but you can only put one RAM DIMM in it. (I had to bust the clips off the motherboard to get the other 2 DIMMs out & put them in my new comp :P) So he ordered new RAM for it from tiger direct and I'm gonna have to relocate all his stuff into my old box soon. (after I plug his hard drive into my machine & back up his stuff onto CD/DVD :P)
In the meantime my parents have hijacked my Laptop. It scares me to think what kinda crap is going on there while they go out & surf around, and it's taken me 2 days now and I'm still in there fixing problems as they find them every couple hours it seems like.
My comps got some piece of spyware. I can't find it. Normally I don't worry about that crap too much, I get what I can and let the rest do what it does, but this stuff started to make logs of my hardware, and put them on the Desktop no less, and that's about where I draw the line. :P But I can't get rid of it, I've put it through 3 different spyware killers (Ad-Aware, Housecall, and Spybot) and none of them can squash it. I'm running spybot again now, it just updated so hopefully that'll tag it, we'll see.
